OBJECTIVE
SEGA aims to support Early Childhood Educators (ECE) in the implementation of STEAM (Science Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) activities in the classroom through a gamified approach. The definition of early childhood education (ECE) used in this proposal describes education for children from pre- Kindergarten through the first grade of primary education. The project will achieve this through a three fold approach: i) the development of a digital toolkit with resources and support material designed for the Early Education classroom. ii) the development of a Gamified story book, guiding educators and students through playful teaching and learning path iii) development of online STEAM training cources addressed to ECE.
MAIN PROJECT RESULTS
The SEGA toolkit is a web-based tool for Early Childhood Educators and teachers that can be used in formal, non-formal and informal contexts of learning.
This toolkit allows ECEC Educators and Teachers to discover STEAM education resources and guidelines of how to implement STEAM in ECE. The toolkit will be accessible online. SEGA Toolkit - Available Soon |
The SEGA Gamebook will be a digital book that promotes STEAM concepts through gaming. It will offer guidelines to ECE educators in order to engage children in STEAM concepts through a roleplaying game. The educators will be the narrators-scaffolders and the children will play the game in groups of various sizes (instructions will be provided with the book). In this digital book, the educators can find links (or QR codes) that lead to suggested STEAM activities that exist in the STEAM toolkit. The Gameebook will be accessible online or it can be freely downloaded and printed.

It will be in a MOOC-like format, but freely available as a resource (no registration will be required). It will be a supportive learning environment, including video lectures, quizzes and self-reflection activities which will allow individualized learning paths within the course. The course will be addressed to the ECE educator and researcher who wants to deepen his/her knowledge to ECE STEAM Education in a guided form.
